Why Cyprus Food Is Simply The Best

Gastronomy, Kanika Hotels - August 4, 2017

Greek Cypriot food we believe is one of the best, not because we live here but because the world says it is. The Cypriot cuisine is an exotic blend of Greek and Middle Eastern cultures, sprinkled with remnants of ancient civilisations such as indigenous Roman root vegetables or old Phoenician delicacies. We all know that the “Mediterranean diet” is considered one of the healthiest diets on the planet. Due to Cypriot climate it gives freshness to food, that’s why our food has an intense flavour.

If you are planning your wedding in Cyprus, you will not be disappointed with our dishes here at Kanika Hotels & Resorts. Food is more than just food, it’s an entire culture, renowned culinary historian Massimo Montanari once suggested. “Many people no travel not just to savour the country, luxury hotel or the beautiful weather, but also to take home memories of exceptional food experiences”, reveals Group Executive Chef Antonis Nicolaou. “In order to achieve this goal, our food philosophy allows us to offer high standards, discover new, inventive ideas, and to constantly update techniques and authentic ingredients.”. Thus, with passion and determination, the Committee, 250 Kanika Chefs and UK Consultant Executive Chef Peter Gorton (TV Celebrity chef and former holder of a Michelin Star) discuss, explore and travel the globe – on a tireless search for new local flavours and recipes to offer Kanika guests the ultimate in World Inclusive Dinning. You can check out more about that here.

Hummus is a traditional pureed chickpea and tahini dip and Haloumi which is grilled and spiced soft goat or sheep’s cheese.

Kebabs; a selection of homemade deliciously prepared kebabs is very traditional in Cyprus. It’s mostly chunks of meat; chicken, lamb, pork and fish it’s cooked on a skewer and seasons with olive oil, oregano and lemon. They are usually server with tzatziki and delicious pita bread.

Souvlaki or “souvla’’ as Cypriots call it, is thin sliced meat pieces – traditionally lamb, pork, chicken and sometimes beef. It’s served with pitta break and picked salad, hummus and tzatziki.
