There is no doubt that Cyprus has much to attract holidaymakers: a pleasing climate with 340 days of sunshine a year; a fascinating history and archaeological sites; spectacular scenery; beautiful beaches and marinas; and wonderful gastronomic delights. It is a safe and amazingly welcoming destination – for holidays or as a place to live.
Working on that theme, Kanika Hotels & Resorts Sales Manager, Maria Evripides, initiated a PR & Communications campaign, ‘Summer is Cyprus: a celebration of Cyprus, its people and its visitors’ which has now been endorsed by the two Hotel Associations STEK and PASYKSE, and the Cyprus Tourism Organisation.
We recognised that the travel industry needed reassurance; that travel agents were being asked questions that they could not answer. So, for the sake of Cyprus and its visitors, but above all for those who are sitting in the middle – the trade – the ‘Summer is Cyprus’ initiative was born. The up-to-date interactive online presence doesn’t just promote a single resort or hotel, but presents the island as a whole.
The project has placed the social media at its forefront, while travel editors are being invited to the island, enabling them to report that in Cyprus it is “tourism as usual”.
Finally, testimonials are sought from tourists enjoying their holidays here as well as “Friends of Cyprus” who are well known, established and successful personalities worldwide. This project now belongs to all Cyprus hotels and we are all working on it as a team.
