Fun packed vacations in foreign lands are the ones that often leave lasting impressions for the little ones, and splashing about by the water’s edge in Cyprus, building sandcastles, and jumping into the kiddie pool will no doubt be forever etched in their memory. But the sun-kissed island also provides a wealth of opportunities for children – and the whole family – to enjoy al fresco activities out in nature. Kanika Hotels & Resorts has narrowed down a few of our favourites, guaranteed to create the most perfect photo album moments.
While most kids these days are known for spending far too much time in front of the screen, holidays are the perfect opportunity to entice them away from the glare of the tablet or smartphone and out into the natural world. With countless nature trails weaving across the Cyprus countryside, there are countless magical spots to perambulate, both along the coastline and in the rugged mountains.
But if you really want to get the young ones super excited, the promise of a waterfall at the end of the adventure is bound to do the trick! Caledonia Falls in the mountain village of Platres is great for the whole family to enjoy; the trail leading here is 3km in total and considered relatively easy. At the end of the trail – or at the beginning, depending from the side you choose to start – you’ll come across the cascading waterfalls, a breath-taking sight to guarantee those ‘ooohs’ and ‘ahhhs’.
2. Equestrian adventures
Prepare for giggles all-round once the kids set sights on gorgeous ponies and horses in the great Cyprus wilderness! And once they saddle up like true cowboys, there’s bound to be beaming smile etched across their face for the rest of the day.
Most horse ranges provide guided pony rides available for smaller children, so adults can sit back and relax while they are going wild. Artemis Riding Therapy is the perfect choice if you’re staying at the Elias Beach Hotel Limassol. Families staying at Alexander the Great Beach Hotel or Olympic Lagoon Resort in Paphos can go wild at George’s Ranch while Moonshine Ranch provides gorgeous rides around Cape Greco for those enjoying a holiday in Agia Napa’s Olympic Lagoon Resort.
3. Rope park fun
If the young ones aren’t appealed by a horse or pony ride, then swinging through the trees like Tarzan and Jane is guaranteed to rock their boat. Make a day of it at Sparti Rope Park; the biggest rope park on the island, located high in the Troodos mountains in Platres, boasting a dedicated section for kids to unleash their wild side with various ropes and challenges between the pine trees. Safety is paramount with a special ‘click it’ cable safety system and harnesses, and all climbing equipment provided.
Marina’s Rope Park is another good – albeit smaller – spot in the gorgeous mountain village of Kakopetria, with plenty of adventure and games for the children in the Junior Section.
We all know that kids just can’t get enough of swimming pools, but give them a chance to enjoy a snorkelling lesson in the crystal clear seas, and they’ll no doubt be grinning from ear to ear. Introductory snorkelling lessons give them the chance to get to grips with diving basics, and if they’re over the age of 10, they can enjoy the full diving lesson experience.
Cyprus has numerous diving clubs within easy reach of Kanika Hotels & Resorts, in all coastal cities. Try Easy Divers in Protaras (close to Agia Napa), Dive-In in Limassol, or Cydive in Paphos.
If your kids can’t seem to sit still, then you can give them the chance to unleash a great amount of energy as adrenaline levels reach an all-time high on the race track. And if you want to ensure they have the time of their lives, take them to the gorgeous Sayious Adventure Park in the village of Asgata, outside Limassol, and an easy drive from the Elias Beach Hotel. The whole family can also try their hand at archery here, or even, an exciting off-road buggy experience.
